Deciding to hire an accountant is not a likely decision to take as a business owner however, outsourcing has several benefits that allow you to refocus on the things that matter most to you. So, once you have decided, how do you choose? There is a vast number of accountants and accountancy firms out there, so which is the best for you and your business?

It is important when coming to a decision that you take the time to choose carefully. There are several different factors that you need to consider including location, cost, workload, and what kind of service that you want to receive in the long run. In this blog, we are going to break down all these factors to help make the decision a little easier for you…

Does location matter to you?

Years ago, when manual accounting was the norm, it was important that you had an accountant who was located nearby. This was due to being able to meet with ease as most of the accounting was done by hand.

However, cloud accounting is now the norm for most businesses across the country. Software such as Xero and Free Agent have allowed for location to become less of an issue meaning that your accountant can view real time data about your business at any time, anywhere (providing there is an internet connection!)

Therefore, if location is not so much of a problem, this gives you more freedom to choose an accountant that really suits your business. Providing that you are happy to communicate over email, Zoom or phone calls, your options are limitless.

How much do you want to pay?

Some accountancy firms will offer a standard price for a standard level of service. This will include either a basic or premium set of tasks which would be completed on the cycle that you choose.

However, other accountancy firms, including us, prefer to offer our clients a bespoke package. This means that it is tailored to your business and involves the services that you choose as well as removes the services you do not want.

It means you are getting more value from your investment and helps you to build your business with the specific advice that you need. If you would like to read more about our Pricing Strategy, click here.

Another key thing to take into consideration is that it is important for your accountant to match the same values as your business. For example, if your business is all about social impact and giving back to the community, you might not want an accountant who is not part of something similar.

As well as this, check out their social media platforms and even Google for any reviews or recommendations. Gaining insight from other people who may have worked with them is a great way to see what the business is like and whether it is a good match for your business.

What kind of service do you want?

At Crisp Accountancy, we work in partnership with our clients. This means that we are not here to boss you around, the same way we are not here to always hold your hand. We are simply here to support you and help you to grow and be the best you can be. If you are looking for someone who will just complete your tax return and meet you once a year then that’s not us!

Either way, it is important to make sure that your accountant is one who you can trust, who is qualified and has the necessary experience to help you and your business to grow.
